Letter To Editor: Stop Harassing Doctor Who Stayed For Storm
(7/20/2007) - Times-Picayune
Re:"Investigation of physician in Katrina case protested," Metro, July 18.
I don't know Dr. Anna Pou personally, but I wish I could have been there to show my support.
I can tell you that I know from personal experience what Dr. Pou and other health professionals went through during Hurricane Katrina.
I was working as a registered nurse during the hurricane at a St. Bernard Parish hospital. The conditions were worse than a Third World country. The heat was unbearable. However, the worse thing was watching innocent people suffer and die due to extreme temperatures and lack of medical equipment and supplies.
State Attorney General Charles Foti should be ashamed of himself for causing so much distress for those who already have suffered so much through this horrific tragedy.
He has made strong statements in his radio addresses and interviews concerning the "fatal" drugs that were used on these patients. He has no clue what he is talking about.
These drugs are used safely on a daily basis across the country in many emergency rooms. Why would he want the public to think otherwise?
Mr. Foti needs to drop this foolishness and publicly beg for forgiveness from those involved. Not that he deserves forgiveness, as he has caused a lifetime of pain with these accusations. God bless Dr. Pou and the others who went above and beyond the call of duty.
