Overview of Allegations
Doctor Anna Pou is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
A native of New Orleans, she returned to the city just 11 months prior to the storm to practice medicine in her home town and to be closer to her mother and siblings
As an LSU faculty member, she taught medical residents and cared for patients with head and neck cancer at Charity Hospital in Downtown New Orleans as well as Memorial Baptist Hospital located on Napoleon Avenue in the Uptown/Broadmoor area of the city.
At the time of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005 Doctor Anna Pou was on call at Memorial. The day of and the days immediately following Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Pou along with many other doctors and nurses had the task of caring for and evacuating patients in this 367 bed sprawling hospital campus.
Dr. Pou along with other dedicated doctors, nurses and staff personnel did their professional best to care for and save patients all the while in conditions unthinkable in today's modern world of medicine.
Today, Dr. Pou and two nurses are accused of injecting lethal doses of medicines to four patients stranded at the hospital. Dr. Pou and these nurses have spent their professional lives dedicated to ensuring the best possible care to all of their patients. Those of us who know Dr. Pou and the nurses know these accusations are completely inconceivable and false. Throughout her professional career and especially as a doctor of Otolaryngology specializing in head and neck cancer surgery, Dr. Pou has fought hard against all odds to preserve and enhance the lives of her patients and has never given up on them. The State's allegations are patently false.
