RESPONSE TO BOSTON LEGAL EPISODE JANUARY 9, 2007

Many supporters of Dr. Pou and others watching with interest the false allegations made against her have contacted this website with strong anger and dismay regarding the January 9, 2007 episode of ABC’s Boston Legal which was meant to depict on some levels the allegations made against Anna Pou and her respected nursing colleagues.

Our response to that insensitive episode follows.

We believe the January 9, 2007 installment of ABC’s Boston Legal was a shameless, insensitive and ill-timed attempt to capitalize on the tragedies of Hurricane Katrina, which also creates for many viewers, a false impression of facts which will be aggressively contested in any legal proceedings. The fact of the matter is that Dr. Pou and her colleagues are totally innocent of all allegations: There were no murders and no cases of so-called mercy killings.

The Boston Legal program was highly insensitive to the family members of all those who died in Hurricane Katrina. After the 9/11 tragedy it was nearly five years before Hollywood versions of those horrible events were released on television and in theatres, and then with much more sensitivity to and input from the victims of that tragedy than Boston Legal and its producers and actors proved to be.

Unfortunately, this type of sensationalized programming occurs after prosecutors such as Attorney General Foti hold press conferences to publicize a case which is still going through the legal process. We hope we can dissuade other producers from shameless pursuit of better ratings through producing programs which may prejudice those persons facing serious legal proceedings. Such programs also do terrible disservice to the memory of those who lost their lives in Hurricane Katrina and impede the recovery of the New Orleans area.
